AOO: Capacity Building for Religious Leaders in Diyala
Accepting Others Organization (AOO) is proud to announce the successful implementation of the capacity-building program for religious leaders in Diyala on UNSCR 1325 and the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. The program was conducted in March and April 2023, and 120 Religious leaders from Diyala received 1-Day training sessions on the important role of women in promoting peace and security.
The program was funded by Cordaid and aimed to enhance the understanding and knowledge of religious leaders on the importance of gender equality, women’s rights, and the role of women in peacebuilding. The training sessions covered various topics, including the legal framework of UNSCR 1325, gender mainstreaming in conflict prevention and resolution, and the importance of women’s participation in peace negotiations.
The program was a great success, and the religious leaders who participated showed a keen interest in the subject matter. They actively engaged in discussions and demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting women’s rights and gender equality in their respective communities. The training sessions were held at six different locations in Diyala, with each session accommodating 20 participants from different areas of the province.
The beneficiaries of the program were 100 men and 20 women, reflecting the commitment of AOO to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. The program’s impact was not only limited to the participants but also extended to the communities they serve. Religious leaders have an important role in shaping public opinion and advocating for gender equality, and their increased knowledge and understanding of UNSCR 1325 and the WPS agenda will help to create more inclusive and peaceful societies in Diyala.
In conclusion, AOO is committed to promoting peace, tolerance, and acceptance among different religious and ethnic groups in Iraq. The capacity-building program for religious leaders in Diyala on UNSCR 1325 and the WPS agenda is just one of the many initiatives AOO has implemented to achieve this goal. We would like to thank Cordaid for their support and look forward to continuing our collaboration to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Iraq.
